I truly felt that I could get the best quality education at LSU while pursuing my musical career.
2. What stood out about the online Sport Leadership program that made it the best choice for you?
I’ve always had an incredible passion for sports. Earning a sports management and leadership degree from LSU seems like the only right place to do so.
3. How did you balance the demands of being on this season of American Idol with your coursework? Did you have to overcome any specific challenges?
School is definitely tough to balance with the American Idol show schedule, but it is completely worth it. The struggle through the journey makes the future outcome that much sweeter.
4. What has been your favorite course or lesson in the program so far, and why?
History and Philosophy of Kinesiology has been my favorite course thus far. You will not find this type of passion for sports history at any other university.
5. How has the flexibility of online learning allowed you to continue pursuing your music dreams while getting your degree?
The online quarter system has made things more efficient for my busy schedule. Online schedules have been extremely flexible, which makes it easy to travel anywhere and still bring LSU with me on the go.
6. Have you found any surprising similarities between the worlds of sports leadership and music performance?
The music industry and sports industry coincide quite well. They both seem related when it comes to mentality and intensity. In both professions, whether being a player, a musician, or a coach, it’s always about who wants to succeed the most. Music, just like sports, will always be a competition, and I love competition.
7. How do you see your degree playing a role in your future, whether in music, sports, or beyond?
Having a college education has helped broaden my horizons. I’ve always been eager to learn, and I’m thankful that I get the opportunity to continue my education now. My love for sports is right up there with music. I hope one day I can combine both professions by influencing athletes and even musicians alike to choose LSU.
8. What advice would you give other artists, athletes, or entertainers considering pursuing online education while chasing their dreams?
Nothing is truly too difficult if you have the sheer want and passion to accomplish it. LSU is a fantastic institution to obtain a college degree from. I would love to encourage fellow musicians to take that extra leap of faith and earn a degree while pursuing music. As for athletes, LSU gives you the best opportunity to succeed educationally and athletically. You will never find a culture or pride at any other university like we have here.
9. LSU has a passionate fan base—how have you felt the LSU community supporting you throughout your American Idol journey?
Even though I’m not an on-campus student, I feel as though I was in Baton Rouge for the last two months. I’m incredibly thankful to be a part of this university and to have the incredible support that I do.
10. Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
